About Us

On June 24, 1885, Detroit Edge Tool Works was incorporated in the state of Michigan, and is now the oldest machine knife manufacturer in the world. The original company manufactured precision machine knives, originally for lumber and woodworking then later for the metal working industry. As times changed after Word War II, the company began to manufacture machine tool components such as hardened and ground, precision detachable ways and rails. These products are both flame hardened, then precision ground.

In 2005, following in their fathers' (Pete Ebbing) footsteps, Ray (President) and John (Vice-President) have taken the company in a broad area of diversification with involvement in various aspects of the metal cutting blade product line. Jerry Madynski, Vice-President Sales, spearheads this effort.

The Roseville Michigan operation with 60,000 square foot of manufacturing capacity is dedicated to providing metal cutting and textile knives to industries all around the globe.
